ISLAMABAD: US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Zalmai Khalilzad also sought Pakistan's help in securing the release of US citizen Mark Freirech during his visit to Pakistan.

 The US Embassy issued a statement regarding the visit of US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmai Khalilzad to Pakistan. According to the statement, US Special Representative for the Afghan Peace Process Zalmai Khalilzad visited Islamabad on May 8 and Army Chief General Qamar Javed. The meeting with Bajwa focused on advancing the Afghan peace process. Zalmai Khalilzad sought Pakistan's help in reducing violence in Afghanistan and holding inter-Afghan talks.

The US embassy said that Zalmai Khalilzad had also sought Pakistan's help in securing the release of US citizen Mark Freirechs. The Pakistani armed forces chief assured support for US efforts.
