President Trump says 300,000 tests are being performed in the United States on a daily basis, and the total number of tests in the country this week will reach 10 million.
In the first week of May, 248,000 tests were performed daily in the United States, according to the charity Cod Tracking Project.
However, leading public health researchers say the United States should reach at least 900,000 tests a day before easing the lockdown.
As of this week, the United States has tested only 2.75 percent of its 330 million people, and no state has tested more than 10 percent.
More than a dozen states that are easing lockdowns, including Texas, South Carolina and Arizona, have tested less than two percent of their citizens.
President Trump said in his press conference that the United States has succeeded. When asked to explain, he said he was only talking about testing.
