In India, 16 workers were killed when a train crushed workers sleeping on the tracks

At least 16 workers have been killed in a road accident in the Indian state of Maharashtra's Aurangabad district.
The Central Coordinating Officer of the South Central Railway in the country confirmed the accident .
He said that the accident took place in Karamad area around 5.30 am on Friday.
Five persons injured in the accident have been admitted to Aurangabad Civil Hospital.

Highlighting the cause of the accident, the railway official said, "Apparently the dead workers were sleeping on the tracks."
Aurangabad Police SP Moksha Patil told Marathi's Naranjan Chanwal that the workers were working in a steel factory in Jalna, a town on the outskirts of Aurangabad.
"These people were going from Jalna to Bhaswal and they were told they would get the train from Bhaswal."
Where did the accident happen?
The accident took place between Badnapur and Karamad railway stations. It happened on the Manmadad rail section.
"The workers were returning to Madhya Pradesh," an official of the Karmad police station told PTI. He was walking along the tracks and fell asleep on the tracks due to fatigue.

The Railway Ministry said in a statement that when the driver of the freight train saw some workers sleeping on the tracks, he tried hard to stop the train but it collided with them.
According to railway officials, orders have been issued to investigate the incident and South Central Railway Safety Commissioner Ram Karpal will independently investigate the incident.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also tweeted condolences over the incident. He said in his tweet that he was very saddened by the loss of life in the train accident in Aurangabad.

He said that he has spoken to Railway Minister Piyush Goel who is keeping an eye on the whole matter and all possible help will be provided to the victims.
