The video, made by a passerby and went viral on social media, features the voice of a black man, repeatedly pleading, "Please, I can't breathe, I can't breathe."
A few minutes after the scene, George Floyd's eyes closed and his constant voice faded. However, the police officer did not remove his knee from his neck, and passers-by continued to move. Not doing so, he needs help. Another police officer stood by and watched the crowd. George Floyd was later taken to hospital but died and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Aradondo told a news conference, without naming the officers, that they had been fired. The state Bureau of Criminal Operations and the FBI have launched separate investigations into the incident. According to the news agency, the lawyer of George Floyd's family, Ben Krump, said that what happened was a very wrong, excessive and inhumane use of force, which took a human life, adding that on the contrary. The lawyer asked the Minneapolis Police Department how many more black and white lives would be needed to end racial discrimination and the denigration of blacks. Meanwhile, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said in a statement that the decision to fire police officers was "absolutely right for our city, we have stated our values, now we have to live according to them." According to the news agency, murder provisions have also been imposed on Hollis officials.
