The Afghan Taliban has posted an interview with a Shia commander from the Hazara tribe on its website, raising questions about whether this is the first time the Taliban has recruited a Shia leader and whether the Taliban Changing your past policies?

A video interview of Maulvi Mehdi Mujahid, a Shia commander from the Hazara community, has been published on the Afghan Taliban's website, in which he tells the Hazara community that as he stood with his Sunni brothers against the Soviet Union Now support the Taliban against the invaders in Afghanistan.

Addressing the Hazara community in a video interview, Maulvi Mehdi said, "If you were not on the front line with the Sunni brothers against the Soviet Union, then why don't you side with the Taliban against these invaders in the country."



Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban's spokesman in Afghanistan, told  that the deployment was no longer made but that Maulvi Mehdi Mujahid had been involved in "jihad" with him for some time.

He said that he has been the head of Balkhab district in Sar-e-Pul province for a long time. He added that yes, it is true that this interview of his has been published on his website for the first time.

It should be noted that the Afghan Taliban emerged as a purely Sunni organization in the 1990s, during which time there were several attacks on the Hazara community.

For a long time, the Afghan Taliban have carried out several attacks on the Shia minority Hazara community in Afghanistan, but now, apparently, for the first time, an interview has come to light of a Taliban commander who belongs to the Hazara community.

Although the Taliban are now claiming that Maulvi Mehdi Mujahid has been with them for a long time, this is the first time his face has been exposed to the world.

Who is Maulvi Mehdi Mujahid?
According to Afghan media, Maulvi Mehdi Mujahid has been involved in several attacks on Afghan officials and has spent many years in prison.

Maulvi Mehdi has been a member of Hizb-e-Wahdat in the past. When he was released in 2018, Muhammad Mohaqiq, the then leader of the Shiite community party Hizb-e-Wahdat in Afghanistan, appointed Maulvi Mehdi as his deputy in Balkhab.

Maulvi Mehdi remained there as a war lord but soon the locals were "fed up" with him and he left in 2019. Sources said that they have been brought back to the area some time ago.

The interview, published on the Taliban's website, is about 23 minutes long, in which Maulvi Mehdi explains in Dari that he made the decision to support the Taliban with forethought.

He said that supporting the Taliban was "one of the aims of gaining Allah's approval and the other is to counter the external forces that have invaded Afghanistan".

Asked in the interview what the Taliban think of Shiites, he said, "The Taliban look at everyone with one eye and all nations are equal to them."

Maulvi Mehdi Mujahid said that "foreign countries did not come to Afghanistan for the betterment of Afghans but their goal is to seize Afghanistan's resources and that is why they are with the Taliban."


Sohail Shaheen, a spokesman for the Afghan Taliban's political office in Qatar, told  that it was not that they now included people from other nationalities or groups, but that people from every community and tribe were with them.
The Taliban and the Hazara community
According to an agreement reached between the United States and the Taliban in Qatar, inter-Afghan talks will begin after the release of Taliban and Afghan government prisoners, followed by an international conference announcing the establishment of a national government in Afghanistan. ۔

There is currently a deadlock for the release of prisoners to implement the agreement, but there are reports that efforts are underway for a second phase, the Inter-Afghan Conference.

According to Afghan Taliban sources, the Taliban have made contact with all Afghan factions except the Afghan government and have "negotiated with them in a cordial atmosphere".

It is not clear which faction or group is represented in Afghanistan, but it is estimated that the Hazara community is represented in Afghanistan at about 15 percent.

According to experts, the Taliban want the support of the Hazara community to show to the world that they are representing a large part of Afghanistan.

However, Sohail Shaheen, a spokesman for the Afghan Taliban's political office in Qatar, told  that it was not that they now included people from other nationalities or groups, but that people from every community and tribe were with them.

He said he was accompanied by members of the Uzbek, Tajik and Hazara communities, as well as their commanders and mujahideen from those nations.

"Afghanistan has 34 provinces and is inhabited by different nations and there are Taliban people in each province and they represent the Taliban," he said.

He said that it was not a matter of taking people from other nations with him after the agreement with the United States, but he was with all the nations and tribes living in Afghanistan.

Rustam Shah Mohmand, a former diplomat who specializes in Afghan affairs, told : The Taliban have always been in touch with other groups, be they Hazaras, Tajiks, Uzbeks or Turkmen, so now it is time to establish a national government in Afghanistan. These groups will also be needed.

He said that from 1996 to 2001, when the Taliban was in power in Afghanistan, these other groups were with him in his government.

Rustam Shah Mohmand said that now that efforts were being made to establish peace at the international leented ivel in Afghanistan, there would be a national government for a certain period of time and all groups would be represn it.
